ClearCanvas ShareAgent is an innovative gateway application that allows healthcare professionals to securely transfer medical images and associated information between different locations.

Combining the functionality of a basic review workstation with routing capabilities normally found in server based software, ClearCanvas ShareAgent presents a unique, cost-effective means for healthcare facilities to exchange information between different DICOM devices (including printers, workstations, modalities and archives from other vendors). Unlike other routing applications or complete PACS solutions, ClearCanvas ShareAgent does not require the use of costly servers to operate or in-depth knowledge of network management.

ShareAgent includes a comprehensive set of networking features including DICOM Send/Receive, Query/Retrieve and Move. Routing rules can be quickly configured to automatically distribute medical images based on a variety of criteria including Modality, Referring Physician, Study Description, and Institution Name, amongst other rules. Various forms of lossy and lossless compression in the solution can be applied to different studies to accelerate transmission times. For optimal network usage, ShareAgent also allows routing to be scheduled during off peak hours when network activity is at its lowest. Emergency cases can be immediately transferred through a variety of manual overrides in the system.

Recognizing that file transfers can be interrupted for a variety of reasons, ShareAgent's Activity Monitor provides a comprehensive list of system activity, allowing users to monitor routing progress from a single screen in the workstation application. Routing processes can be interrupted, stopped or restarted from this screen depending on network connection problems that might occur. After an image has been transferred, configurable deletion rules in the solution ensure that local hardware doesn't become overwhelmed with legacy studies. In the event that patients would like to take a copy of their images with them following their exam, ShareAgent includes ClearCanvas' popular media burning module (which supports CD, DVD and BluRay, bundled with a standalone image viewer).
