The ClearCanvas ImageServer can function on a wide range of hardware and operating systems. Hardware selection depends on the desired performance characteristics of the server and the types of images being processed by the server. The following list summarizes the basic requirements:
| • | The current ImageServer is not critically dependent on CPU performance. There are, however, many simultaneous tasks that occur and a multi-core CPU will improve performance. |
| • | The Windows Service will require approximately 400MB of available memory space for processing most standard single-frame images. Support for processing larger multi-frame images requires additional memory. Support for processing large multi-slice studies will also require additional memory. The Windows Service also contains a configuration option that by default requires a minimum of 512MB of free space available on the system for processing to occur. |
| • | Additional RAM should be allocated for SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2005 Express, SQL Server 2008, or SQL Server 2008 Express. |
| • | Online free disk space should be scaled to meet the desired storage capacity of the server. The server can support storage to local directories, NAS devices, or to Storage Area Networks (SANs). |
| • | The ImageServer has been tested with x86 processors on Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008. Windows Server 2008 is recommended. |
