Installing RIS Server 2.0
1. Select Components
Launch the RIS Server installer. After the License Agreement, the installer will provide a list of components to install. This guide will provide instructions for a simple configuration where all components are installed to the same computer. Accept the default configuration (all components) unless you have your own Reference Data and do not want to use the Sample Data provided.

The default configuration installs all components to the same computer.
IMPORTANT: If you have chosen to install the Sample Data, during the installation process, you will see the Workstation splashscreen appear. This does not mean that the Workstation has been installed. (The Workstation executable is required to install the sample data.) You still need to install the Workstation separately. |
2. Specify SQL Server
On the Database connection page enter the sa logon and password you created during the SQL Server install. You may use another SQL account here as long as it has sufficient permissions. In the DB Server field, enter the SQL server IP address and instance name if applicable, just as you did when verifying the connection using SQL Server Management Studio. You cannot use the IP address in place of the hostname unless you explicitly set up your SQL server to accept connections over TCP/IP protocol.

Enter the sa logon, password, and server name as when logging into Management Studio.
3. Specify Database Name and Database User
While the sa logon is used only during the install process to create the RIS database, the Database User created here is a SQL account created solely to be used by the RIS Server for read and write access to the RIS database only. Accept default settings for database name and database user.

Create a new SQL account to be used by the RIS Server for accessing the RIS database.
4. Local vs. Remote Client
On the RIS Server connection setup page accept the default values. This will configure the server to use a localhost endpoint and issue a localhost certificate (you will be limited to use of the RIS client on the server machine only). Ensure that the default port 8000 is not already in use by another application on the same computer. If you change this port, you must specify the new port during the RIS client install as well.
Select Remote Clients only if you have a certificate installed. Please refer to the Modifying Endpoint step in the Manual Configuration section of the Workstation Installation chapter for details on how to manually update the Configuration Settings when using remote clients.

IMPORTANT: You must ensure that no other certificates issued to "localhost" exist in the certificate store. If any already exist then another localhost certificate will be created and the client may reject the server certificate when validating. Any certificate errors will result in a failed connection to the server and the log will report that the communication object cannot be used because it is in a faulted state. |
5. Create RIS Admin User
Specify the username and password for the account that will be used to log into the RIS and continue the configuration of the RIS Server after the install is complete. This account is only used to administer the RIS Server during this setup process.

Specify the RIS Admin username and password.
This portion of the RIS Server installation is now complete. Please check the install log in the RIS Server install directory to ensure that there are no errors. You must now install one instance of ClearCanvas Workstation 2.0 to continue the configuration of the RIS Server. Please continue reading the Workstation Installation section for more details.
