Procedure Type Group

Procedure Type Groups are an organizational structure that groups Procedure Types together for different purposes. Procedure Type Groups fall into 3 classes: Performing groups, Reading groups, and Relevance groups.

Classes of Procedure Type Groups

Class

Description

Performing

Groups together procedure types that are performed by the same staff/deparment/machine. Used for defining Registration and Performing worklists.

Reading

Groups together procedure types that are read by the same staff/department/sub-specialty. Used for defining Reporting and Protocoling worklists.

Relevance

Groups together procedure types that are considered mutually relevant. Used to determine relevant priors.

The unique name of the procedure type group.

Description

Optional description of the group.

Procedure Types

The set of procedure types that have membership in the group.

Notes

The primary function of Performing and Reading groups is to support the creation of worklists that include only a subset of procedure types. Performing groups traditionally tend to group procedures by modality (e.g. CT, MR, Nuclear Medicine) although this need not be the case. Reading groups tend to group procedures by reading sub-specialty (e.g. CT Head/Neck, CT MSK). However, the organization is free to define Performing and Reading groups in any manner they choose.

The primary function of Relevance groups is to support determination of relevant priors.
