Live Demo: Integrated RIS/PACS (BETA)

Note: The Live Demo is currently still based on ClearCanvas 1.3.

Welcome to the ClearCanvas integrated RIS/PACS demo!  Configuring a RIS/PACS is time-consuming, so we thought this live demo--currently in beta form--would save you some time and provide you with a quick way of trying out our integrated RIS/PACS.

Getting Started

  1. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure your computer's clock is synchronized to internet time, otherwise you will have problems connecting.
  2. Click on the Request button in the "My Live Demo Account" section below. (Note that you must be logged in to do that.)
  3. Download and install the special integrated RIS/PACS client below.  It should not interfere with any other ClearCanvas products you may have installed.
  4. Start up the client.
  5. When prompted, enter one of the logins in the email sent to you.  If you want to view images, login with the radiologist account, select an item from the worklist and click either the View Images or Create Report button.

Important Notes (PLEASE READ!)

  • Expect performance limitations.  The RIS has not yet been optimized for use over the internet (WAN), and so it will definitely not feel as responsive as it would normally in a production LAN environment.  You will need a 5mbps connection at minimum, as well as some patience.  We suggest that you try it out from your workplace, instead of from home, as you'll likely get better performance.
  • Images are not diagnostic quality.  We've lossy compressed all the images (by at least 10:1) so that they transmit faster over the internet.  Keep in mind that the point of the demo is to show the integrated workflow, not to show diagnostic quality images.
  • RIS orders may be in different states of the workflow depending on what other users earlier in the day have done. (As we note below, the database is reset daily, so if you want to see orders at the beginning of the workflow, try the demo early in the day.)
  • Admin features are not available in the clerk, tech and rad accounts, for obvious reasons.  Know however, that a rich set of admin tools are in fact available.
  • All patient names and identifiers are fictitious.  No real names or identifiers have been used in any of the data you see.
  • 32-bit XP and Vista only.  We do not offer a 64-bit version of the client at this time.
  • Downtime everyday between 0600h and 0630h EST (1100h and 1130h GMT).  The database needs to be restored to its original state each day so that new users can try the demo with fresh data.  If you're logged in during the downtime, you will lose connectivity.
  • No user's guide for the RIS yet. We're in the process of preparing some online help for the RIS client.  In the meantime, we've included the user's guide for the viewer.
  • This live demo is still in BETA.  We've tried to anticipate the issues associated with putting the integrated RIS/PACS on the internet (e.g. performance limitations), but there will be issues we haven't thought of that might make your experience less than ideal.
  • IE8 compatibility problems.  If you use IE8, you will notice that some of the preview pages don't come up properly.  We are aware of this problem and will rectify it in the future.

Finally, we invite you to tell us what you think of the integrated RIS/PACS client, including any problems or bugs you run into.
