Researchers investigating the viability of using Open Source for digital imaging in health-care, chose to use the ClearCanvas ImageServer for their research. The ImageServer was installed in a virtualized environment, and has been running for several months continuously without any problems. "The whole installation was easy to perform, and the resultant PACS is very reliable in its everyday use in a university hospital," they wrote.

Re: ImageServer used to show open source is viable for health-care imaging!
And they are right!
During my first implementation of PACS with CCIS, I was categorical that the imaging center needed a PACS administrator. However, they could not get one immediately and now, two months later, the system is so stable that they have decided to shelve the issue of a PACS admin for now. IS handles at least 100 studies per day, auto routes, compresses etc, and its stability is amazing.
It has exceeded everyone's expectations, including mine.
Looking forward to next releases.
Kudos guys.
