Are there plans to add an Export to CD/DVD function in the Workstation software?

As it stands, we have to utilize eFilm Workstation just to export to/print CDs for patients, otherwise we would be utilizing CC full time.

Are there any plans to add/support this? Or any workarounds that can be done?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

This has certainly been an often requested feature. We plan to add it at some point, but it's hard to say when, as there are a number of other features we need to implement first.

There has been a fair bit of discussion about this topic on the forums, so you might want to peruse some of the posts from the past.

Great, thank you for the reply.
This feature is very important to us.....it is pretty much THE kicker for utilizing CC over others.
We would gladly pay for development of the mentioned feature into our CC system....any recommendations?

I could also get our board to spend some money to help pay for development, If you were to add a way to donate funds to the project I am sure I could drum up some interest.
The EFilm/Vista bug has left allot of smaller Imaging centers desperate for a new solution. In these times sending a CD with a "lite Viewer" in place of film is the only thing keeping employees employed.
Please let me know if there is anything I could do to help.

Hi,

Something we've been thinking about for a while now is the idea of sharing the cost of developing a particular feature (e.g. CD burning) amongst a group of people/institutions who share a common interest in that feature. This is a somewhat unconventional approach to funding development, but we think there are a number of advantages:

1) The reality is that hiring a good contractor to do the work is not cheap. However, the more people/institutions who contribute, the lower the cost per person/institution.

2) Whatever gets written would be open source, so those who contribute would be giving to the community in a very concrete way.

3) It accelerates the development of the feature.

4) If they wish, those who contribute would be recognized on our website as sponsors of the feature.

5) It contributes to our sustainability as a company, which of course, is good for everyone.

I'd like to know how many people out there would be interested in participating in this cost sharing approach to implementing CD burning. If you are, please post back here. We'll contact you in the next couple of weeks to follow up.

Here you are! We have just finalized our CD/DVD Write functionality for our Viewer version.
Functionalities;
- You can select single or multiple patient from explorer window (My Studies query results.)
- Any viewer on the source directory will be included in CD with DICOMDIR and autorun.
- If selected studies needs more that one CD or DVD it's ok, will ask for 2nd, 3rd etc.
- You can choose between CD or DVD for combo drives.
- Using more than one drive is welcome.
- Optionally a CD robot can be used (Like EPSON PP-100) Patient and Study info and Hospital/Imaging Center Logo will be printed to CD surface.

We are planning to develop this as Plug-in for CC upon request. please feel free to ask details and screenshots. (sezerpal -at- gmail -dot- com) Are we allowed to sell the plug-in?

Sezer Pal

Hi Sezer Pal
In the UK, we are now supposed to send DICOM CDs out unless they are encrypted due to Information Governance issues.
Does your solution allow the ability to encrypt?
With thanks

Dear aiquille,

Encryption functionality needs custom development. If it's based a key or password, it's simple and easy. But if PKI is required it's more complex. Could you send me more details about UK's encryption standarts?

Regards,

Sezer Pal

Hi all,

It's great to see how many people are willing to contribute to this! If there are more, please keep replying to this post. The more we can get, the more we can drive down the cost per person. For those who have already posted, I'll be in touch with you via email soon...perhaps next week sometime.

And Sezer, yes you are allowed to sell the plugin. We don't mind the competition either. Our implementation will be open source, but if yours offers value-added features, then people will pay for it. This is the kind of ecosystem we are trying to build.

As Aiguille says encryption is now almost mandatory in the UK, a nice work flow would I'm sure be apreciated.
It would probably be on most users wish list in any case.

UK encryption rulings essentially only says it should be to AES-64, there is no ruling on the complexity of keys.
One CD I recieved proudly bore the label 'This CD is encrypted', the next line was 'The password is ..... ' Security at its finest LOL

Okarthritis if you just want to use e-film to burn a CD then if you look you can still get hold of a 1.5.3 version download. That'll burn you a CD with the lite viwer bundled.

I'd give you the URL but that would take the fun out of finding this rarity ;)

We're very interesting in seeing this capability as well.  Having this ability would be a real plus

Norm,

Is the export to CD functionality under consideration by CC just a means of burning dicom directories, or is a light viewer also being considered? CC cant run without .net, a light viewer without a need for cc's prereqs would be nice.

These products might be useful in terms of making a viewer for the lite version. Both are kind of buggy right now, but open source.
