 Hi Everyone,

We're currently looking for replacement to our Syngo Imaging XS with a web-based option, and I bumped to ClearCanvas when I searched for open source version of PACS/RIS. Just want to know some of the functionality in particular the use of a web browser to view the images. Since it is web based, does it mean that is platform indepedent? Can I view using Safari on Mac/Ipad? How about Android based tablets?

As of now, our PACS and RIS is not integrated because they are supplied by two separate vendors. Is ClearCanvas' integrated i.e. you only have to login once to gain access to both?

Many thanks!

P.S. Do you have a version that runs on Linux?

I'll answer as best I can, someone else can correct/fill in, but I'll tell you my answer:

1 - Clearcanvas supports WADO, so you can use a web-based viewer that uses it. There is no built-in web viewer in Clearcanvas.

2 - It is windows only.

3 - You can view images on any device that has software that can speak DICOM or WADO, Osirix on Mac, unaware of any tablet software available.

4 - Yes, you can have one login to access RIS and PACS. The Workstation client is both a PACS client and a RIS client (the ris client is an installation-time option). You lok in once to workstation, and can access images and RIS functions. The users are given roles to manage access.

5 - no linux. I know, I know, I'd love it too.

Hi,

The last official release of our RIS was the 2.0 SP1 Community Edition, and at that time, there was no web viewer.

More recently, there have been several commercial Team Edition releases of our Workstation and ImageServer (PACS); the ImageServer does have a web viewer, called WebStation, which is Silverlight based. The Wikipedia page for Silverlight mentions all the OSs and browsers on which it works, but we only officially support Windows 7, IE 8 and 9 because that's what we test it on.

The Team Edition has a great deal of added functionality, not available in the Community/open source versions, including role-based user management & centralized logins. Check the link I provided above to see.

All the ClearCanvas components (RIS+ImageServer+Viewer), when properly configured, are fully integrated; same user account accesses them all, and the RIS client and Viewer are both part(s) of the Workstation. As of yet, the RIS has not been commercially released along with the ImageServer and Viewer.

The majority of the code for WebStation is open source and is in our source repository, as is the RIS, but it comes with no support outside the forums.

ClearCanvas ImageServer does support basic WADO, but only supports retrieving the DICOM objects, and there is also a custom mime-type specifically used for our streaming technology; we do not support retrieving JPEGs at this time.

Hope this helps,
Stewart

Sorry, I should clarify the "official" support: for browser functionality, IE 8 and 9; for the Workstation, XP SP3, Windows 7; for the ImageServer, Windows Server 2008 R2.
